“Did I mention Trump is leaving? That’s a big win.”
“Are you allowing yourself time to celebrate right now or is there too much work to be done?” Stephen asked.
“I had about 17 minutes on Saturday afternoon. I’m good,” she replied. “Gotta get back to work. We gotta win two Senate races. I can’t dawdle too long.”
“Biden is set to become the first Democratic presidential candidate to win Georgia since 1992. You’re being credited with your Get Out the Vote effort, your organizing of Georgia. How did you do it?” he asked.
“My part was that when I became Democratic Leader in 2010, I started building an infrastructure to focus on registration, on recruiting and training staff, on making certain we were in every single county, and I advanced that through multiple cycles.”
“In 2018, I finally had enough money to do all the things we dreamed of. I raised $40 million for my gubernatorial race, and we kept raising money after I lost to keep focusing on keeping this infrastructure in place.”
“We had 2 million voters who understood that their voices were needed, and they showed up,” she said.
“One of the hallmarks of that [gubernatorial] campaign was the obvious voter purchase and voter suppression that were going on under then-Secretary of State Kemp. I imagine that must have given you even more energy for this effort than before?” Stephen asked.
“He was a galvanizing force for the intensity of my efforts this time, yes,” Stacey responded with a big smile.
“Do you think there are any Republicans on the national level now going, ‘Oh, would be better if she was just governor. Now, we’ve lost the whole damn state’?” he asked while laughing.
“I had some time on my hands! If they let me have this other job, I probably would have been distracted!” she exclaimed while chuckling too.
The talk show host pulled out a print of his favorite Stacey meme, which he loved because he’s a Lord of the Rings fan.
In a spin on the iconic Return of the King scene, the Witch King of Angmar’s face was covered by the state of Georgia, with the words “You fool. No man can flip me” underneath. Below that, Stacey’s face covered Éowyn’s as she yelled, “I am no man!”
Then, he said, “I saw several think pieces this weekend where Democrats or just political writers [were] saying, ‘The Democrats won, but did they really?'”
“Yeah, we really won,” she replied. “There is an orange menace of putrescence who will no longer be able to occupy the White House. That’s a big deal.”
“We have seen a change in the face of leadership by adding Kamala Harris so women at large and women of color in particular can see themselves in the highest positions in the land. And oh, did I mention Trump is leaving? That’s a big win. We can get the rest of it done,” she concluded.
Thank you for all of your hard work, Stacey! Can’t wait to see what you do next!!
